Position Summary

Verisk Analytics Location Product Services team has an opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer in our St Louis Park MN office.  This individual is responsible for software development and maintenance for our LOCATION insurance product. The LOCATION insurance product uses analytical and geographic information processing methods to assign risk values to properties.

  • This position includes project planning, status reporting, some technical supervision. Design substantial portion of system architecture and critical path features. Provide recommendations on technical direction including hardware and software issues. Work with one or more team members implementing the technical design.
  • Participate in and provide expertise in areas of the Software Engineering Process including responsibility for the design and innovation of new software and the specification/implementation/testing/release cycle. Properly document, track and test work; follow departmental quality standards with regard to coding, commenting, unit testing, debugging, documenting, releasing, and versioning code
  • Provide internal support and, as appropriate, direct customer support to determine and resolve software quality problems (bugs) in existing products. Act as contact for maintenance of software you lead development on. Debug and resolve software quality problems
  • Provide guidance to new and junior employees in the areas of software engineering technology, project-specific problems, company policy, through example and direct, hands-on training. As project team member, undertake mentoring of junior staff on project teams; take initiative in general to mentor wherever the need is seen
  • Champion the development of new departmental processes that improve our ability to develop software to established quality levels. Provide expertise in setting up new guidelines and modifying existing guidelines
  • Completes all responsibilities as outlined on annual Performance Plan
  • Completes all special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other scientific discipline
  • Proven experience working in a Continuous Integration and Continuous Development environment.
  • Ability to setup/configure automated Build tools: Atlassian’s Bamboo, Jenkins or Octopus Deploy
  • 3-7 years’ or more experience working on programming projects
  • Programming skills and experience:  Java or Object Oriented Programing Language
  • Knowledge of Software Engineering principles
  • Good to Excellent knowledge of SQL and Oracle and database systems 
  • Background in Graphical Information Systems (GIS) or geometry preferred
  • Prefer experience with: Unit testing (Junit) and Best Practices/Design patterns, Object Relational Mapping (ORM) such as Hibernate, Dependency Injection tools such as Spring, Continuous Integration environment
