Target Recognition Senior Software Engineer

Atmospheric and Environmental Research, Inc. (AER) is seeking an experienced software engineer to work as a member of a team designing and implementing innovative data exploitation technologies that support target recognition requirements for the Dept. of Defense.  The successful applicant shall possess background and experience in target recognition programs employing EO, IR and SAR sensor modalities as well as a commitment to excellence.  The position requires both proven software development and testing skills as well as the ability to effectively support scientists and engineers developing algorithms to exploit data from multiple sensor modalities and platforms.

Candidates must have a MS degree in computer science, or in the physical sciences or mathematics with a strong computer science emphasis.  The successful applicant has a demonstrated ability to develop quality software for science or engineering applications and to rapidly learn new problem domains and software technology.  Strong technical and communication skills, teamwork, and problem solving in a fast-paced R&D environment are also required. 

The following are required:
  • Strong C++ programming skills in a Linux environment
  • Proficient use of software development tools, such as MATLAB, to support rapid prototyping
  • Demonstrated background in all phases of the software development cycle including requirements, design, implementation and test
  • Proficiency in configuration management principles and software version control tools such as Subversion
  • Demonstrated competency in software development supporting computer vision, scientific, or engineering applications

The following are desired:
  • Background in high performance computing and code optimization, including experience in multi-threading and the employment of GPUs in embedded systems
  • Experience with real-time multi-bounce ray tracing techniques and applications
  • Image analysis of sensor data types that include EO, IR, SAR and LADAR
  • DoD Secret level clearance
