Job Description


Main Responsibilities:
    • Assist with updating and development of fires following earthquakes models and wildfire models for the United States and other countries around the world.
    • Develop frameworks to account for impacts of fire codes, mitigation measurements, building characteristics on fire losses in portfolio risk analysis.
    • Implement research findings into AIR’s portfolio risk analysis models and perform sophisticated validation, calibration, and quality assurance (QA).
    • Present research models/results to clients, write documentations of research models, and attend science and technology conferences.
    • Provide technical supports to internal and external clients.

Qualifications (desired knowledge, skills and abilities):
  • Ability to gather, understand, and critically analyze data from all relevant sources, such as fire/weather/climate information, scientific papers, government reports, insurance industry data, etc.
    • Proficient technical programming skills gained through practical experiences using a high-level language such as C++ and FORTRAN.
    • Strong statistical background and familiar with statistical packages, preferable in R.
    • Experienced in processing large datasets. SQL is a plus.
    • Rich experiences with GIS application, such as ArcGIS and QGIS. Python is a plus.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Ph.D. or M.S. in environmental, civil, or structural engineering, physical science, or other related areas.
