Wood Mackenzie's Americas Gas & LNG Consulting team provides expert consulting services to many of the key natural gas and LNG industry stakeholders globally, including producers, integrated energy companies, midstream companies, LNG development companies, utilities, financial institutions and governments. Our expertise extends across the value chain, allowing us to help our clients address the full range of their strategic and operational challenges.  In delivering our strategic advice we are able to draw directly on Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary research-driven content and analytical tools – a unique source of commercial insight extending across markets, companies and assets.

Role Purpose

 

As a key member of our Americas Gas & LNG Consulting team, you will be responsible for managing and directing commercial and strategy consultancy projects across the natural gas and LNG sector with a focus on the US and Canadian markets.  The position requires the ability to apply detailed knowledge and experience of the Gas & LNG industry to a broad range of consulting projects and client situations.

 

The successful candidate will proactively drive the growth and business development activities for our US and Canadian Gas & LNG practice area, develop networks and relationships across the industry that lead to a deep understanding of our client’s needs, and work closely with the global Consulting team to promote best practice in our existing offerings and take a key role in the future development of the consulting offerings.

 

The role is high-profile both internally and externally and influential in Wood Mackenzie achieving its goals of continuing double digit growth both across the Americas region and globally.

 

While the principal focus of the role is the US and Canadian Gas & LNG markets, the job holder may be involved in a range of consulting projects spanning other regions of the world. The successful candidate can expect moderate travel, mostly within the US and Canada.

 

Main Responsibilities

 

As a Director at Wood Mackenzie you will take leadership roles in business development, thought leadership, project direction:

 

Business Development

  • Proactively maintaining a high-level of client interactions across the region, with specific focus on developing strong relationships with key clients and a solid, repeatable, profitable consulting business
  • Promoting best practice in terms of business development across the Gas & LNG Consulting group and the Sales and Account Management departments
  • Working with the Gas & LNG Consulting and Research team to scope and write pitches ensuring quality, appropriate pricing, etc.

 

Thought Leadership

  • Keeping abreast of industry developments and generating innovative ideas and approaches to industry issues, both within particular assignments (external engagements, insights, and white papers) and to the consulting practice as a whole
  • Engaging with and developing a senior-level client community to demonstrate and debate strategic industry issues and perspectives
  • Building and maintaining the internal network (across Consulting, Research and Sales and Account Management) to deliver the best possible outcome for both Wood Mackenzie and its clients
  • Working with colleagues in our other sector consulting teams to ensure good coordination across the value chain for our clients

 

Project Direction

  • Assuming overall responsibility for project success working with the team and clients to ensure high quality, insightful results achieving project objectives
  • Providing functional guidance and content expertise, while fostering the individual development of team members
  • Improving operational processes for the life cycle of consulting assignments and ensuring processes are embedded across team members
  • Reviewing and closing off projects internally (project and individual reviews)
  • Identifying and pitching follow-up and resale opportunities
  • Working closely with the sales and account management teams to ensure consistent and good working relationships and to increase content knowledge 

 

Knowledge & Experience Required

  • Top-tier university degree (master’s/diploma/PhD) and/or MBA or relevant Master's degree from a top program
  • Significant previous experience, at least 10-12 years in a senior Gas or LNG-focused strategy consulting role or a senior strategic planning, business development, or commercial role within the US & Canada Gas & LNG industry
  • Expert industry knowledge of US & Canada Gas & LNG markets, operations, business models and strategies 
  • Track record and experience in directing, managing and executing consulting engagements and driving industry and/or consulting business development
