The Power & Renewables Data Team leads the ingestion, processing, curating and analysis of data that underpins our products and supports our extraordinary research. Role Purpose

Wood Mackenzie seeks an experienced professional to play a key role in improving and growing our Power & Renewables (P&R) practice. Combining the recent acquisitions of Greentech Media (GTM) and MAKE with Wood Mackenzie’s power research provides a solid foundation to become the leading market analysis and advisory firm on the transformation of the global renewable power industry. You will be expected to contribute and make an impact from day one.

The Data Engineer will build and maintain databases and data ETL processes for a variety of renewables and utility energy topics, as well as create and maintain processes that support the fundamental analysis efforts for the team and clients.  

Main Responsibilities
  • Build new databases on renewables and emerging energy topics, establish and enhance the processes for data collection, normalization, cleansing, formatting, automation, and reporting.
  • Create and maintaining automated processes involving: databases, spreadsheets, web scraping, version control systems, web sites, data services etc.
  • Collect and compile industry data on a regular basis from multiple sources using automated tools and processes and establish best practices.
  • Guide analysts in proper data transformation for incorporation into new and existing databases, models and services.
  • Ensure integrity of our own sourced data.
  • Develop new processes to improve the transformation and curation of our data.
  • Produce reports and data extracts as required by the various research teams
  • Create and maintain the documentation of data processes, databases, data tools and models, according to policies, procedure and standard methodologies.
  • Work with other teams across all Wood Mackenzie's business to maintain consistency of data across teams to maintain global integrity and abide by Continuous Improvement guidelines.

Knowledge & Experience Required
  • Experience with RDBMSs, particularly Mysql, including database schema design, development and security.
  • Experience with AWS and related data management tools including Aurora, S3 and Lambda.
  • Understanding of how web scraping methods can be implemented.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, including experience of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) or Python/R with respect to MS Office integration.
  • Experience in automating processes using combined solutions including databases, spreadsheets, workflows, programming languages and version control systems (VCS).
  • Experience in ownership of a process, taking responsibility for a task or group of tasks and improvement on an ongoing basis.
  • Excellent problem solving, documentation, communication and organization skills, and attention to detail.
  • Interest in and basic knowledge and understanding of global energy markets, particularly renewables.
  • Degree in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research)
  • Preferred experience in the following: MS Access, VBA, Python, R, Spotfire, Tableau, Git, Kapow, Javascript
