Verisk Innovative Analytics (VIA), a unit of Verisk Analytics (VRSK), develops advanced analytical solutions to challenging problems related to risk and decision-making in industry verticals related to  insurance, healthcare, financial services, energy, and retail.  We are an internal analytical consultancy for various Verisk business units and a research and development team for new analytical products that cross business areas or extend us into new industry verticals.  Our work combines vast data resources with advanced technology to create innovative and technically rigorous solutions.  VIA employs a multidisciplinary team of individuals with advanced backgrounds in statistics, actuarial science, mathematics, computer science, machine learning, operations research, and many other fields.


Position Overview

Verisk Innovative Analytics is looking for a bright, energetic analytic scientist/data scientist.  In this position, you will work, in small teams on all aspects of varied analytic projects.


Responsibilities include:
  • Designing analytic solutions for our industry verticals and cross-enterprise product research
  • Developing analytic solutions using a variety of methodologies including predictive modeling, text mining, forecasting, network analytics and image processing
  • Performing model validation, and measuring model performance
  • Presenting model methodology and results to senior stakeholders and clients
  • Work with deployment team to implement final models in production
  • Provide technical assistance to development partners and clients
  • Keep abreast of and adapt to technical innovations and new developments
  • Manage/mentor more junior analysts


Qualifications include:
  • Masters or PhD in quantitative field
  • Level of hire will be based on years of relevant experience
  • A track record of outstanding academic performance
  • Ability to solve problems analytically and creatively
  • Strong communication (written and oral) skills
  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python, R and SAS
  • Familiarity with SQL or NoSQL databases
