Team Profile

The role is part of a global power and renewables research team, providing market leading data, analysis, and insight for the global solar, wind, storage, and power markets.


Role Purpose 

The Senior / Principal Analyst will be responsible for research and analysis in our growing Wind research practice, serving as our subject matter expert on Global Wind O&M and turbine technology.


They will conduct original quantitative and qualitative market research and deliver analysis through written reports, consulting, client inquiries, and speaking engagements. As a part of Wood Mackenzie’s wind research team, the analysts serve clients who are responsible for the success of their firm’s O&M Strategies, competitive market positioning, O&M cost modelling, technology roadmaps and deployment strategies.

The Analyst corresponds with, presents to, and advises Asset owners, developers, turbine OEMs, Independent Service Providers and wind industry professionals on analysis regarding the changing landscape of the global wind O&M and technology markets. The Analyst will focus on analysis of wind O&M and technology developments. This research will encompass market assessments, cost benchmarking and forecasting, strategy identification, supply chain support, and competitive analysis.


Main Responsibilities


  • Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct primary and secondary desk research on global wind O&M, technologies, business models, market developments and financial impacts
    • Deliver high quality research work and ensure client satisfaction
    • Lead and contribute to the research publications including but not limited to
      • Lead author of the Annual Global Wind Turbine O&M Sector Report
      • Key contributor to the Annual Global Wind Supply Chain Report
      • Contribute and lead relevant Research Notes and Flash Notes on O&M markets developments
      • Data Analysis
        • Monitor and maintain relevant data for the O&M and technology segments, including costs, technology trends, corporate and market dynamics, and the competitive landscape
        • Develop, update and maintain wind O&M databases, ISP databases, Turbine reliability and failure rates, logistics and O&M costs databases and contribute to P&R's growing base of data tracking and database-oriented products and services
        • Develop O&M price and cost benchmarking models.
        • Ensure the data quality and accuracy is continuously improved 
        • Networking and Industry collaboration 
          • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the O&M segment
          • Establish an industry presence as an influential speaker and thinker; build relationships with senior industry professionals (vendors and utilities) as well as with the journalists who cover the sector; and participate in vendor briefings and press inquiries as necessary
          • Consulting engagement
            • Support and lead specific consulting assignments on O&M and technology
            • Render support for the projects led by other team members by contributing in data extraction and validation.
            • Develop presentation material, summary tables, analytical tables for the projects.
            • Maintain data confidentiality on sensitive data pertaining to the consulting projects and anonymity of information sources have to be maintained.
            • Business Development
              • Work directly with sales and marketing via internal and external communications to actively help generate new sales, build larger programs for existing clients, and effectively market completed research
              • Present at WoodMac and industry-sponsored events, and moderate client webinars
              • Ensure that the research and consulting projects are executed and delivered with complete and accurate information quality within the set time limits

      • Asset owner O&M strategies
      • Independent Service Providers in Global/Regional markets
      • Service business model strategies
      • Competitive differentiators for wind energy service providers
      • Global and Regional Wind O&M market dynamics
      • Drivers and barriers to various service business model adoption
      • The emerging role of digitalization
  • An understanding of wind turbine technology including the manufacturing, reliability and technology differentiators of:MS Excel, Word, PPT
    • Blades
    • Major powertrain components (gearbox, generator, power converters)
    • Towers
    • Turbine controls
    • Skill sets
      • Analytical skills including but not limited to
        • IRR modelling
        • Market size modelling
        • Price and cost modelling
        • Failure rate analysis
  • Linguistic skills in oral and written English
  • Business development skills


  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree of science, engineering, economics or similar
    • Experience
      • At least 5 years of relevant work experience from international wind company
      • Strong network within the global wind community
